Holistic Vet?

Has anyone gone to a Holistic Vet? I have been researching this topic. Fortunately, my Jesse is doing great but his herpes opened up the topic of holistic treatments. Has anyone ever tried it?

Dr. B. does practice conventional medicine and also uses holistic therapies.

I haven't tried a holistic vet yet. A friend uses one in the next town over from me and really likes her. I was going to try her when I changed vets but her office hours didn't work out with my work schedule - plus my friend says she is really expensive.

Joane, I have used a holistic vet in the past for my elderly dogs. I was very pleased with the results.

My vet practice has a vet who practices, both holistic and conventional medicine.
If Rupert has more issues with crystals, I am going to look at holistic treatments, in combination with conventional treatments.

I have and I currently have an appointment for Sparky with one. I have mixed feelings about this and I am quite confused actually. My regular Vet is certified through AHVMA ( Alternative Holistic Veterinary Medical Assoctiation) as well as Western medicine. She does accupunture, chinese herbs as well as traditional medicine but she has not wanted to try any of it on Sparky. She does not do Homeopathy or Western Herbs, hence the upcoming appt. with someone else.

I do try to find a more natural way to do things but I have come to realize it is true that natural does not mean safe, especially where cats are concerned as they are different than any other animal in how their bodies deal with stuff. I would just be careful that the person you use is properly trained as there are a lot of herbs and such out there that can be very dangerous for cats. When I am given a herb, or medicine of any kind I research it very thoroughly before giving it, you would be amazed how many things are prescribed that could be dangerous to the cats.

We actually have a very well known Holistic Vet in the vicinity, I won't mention names. She has a several month waiting list for new clients. I got Missy in to see her and we tryed many things to help her. In all honestly I don't know if all the stuff we did hurt or helped. She travels all over the country so she is gone a lot and when you have a sick animal you don't want to deal with a vet long distance over the phone. She will not see me anymore because it has to be her way, alternative, or not at all. When Sparky got worse and I turned to my regular vet and used Western medicine and pharmeceuticals she told me if I wasn't going to do what she said I needed to stay with the regular vet. :argh

What I would like is to have a joining of Western and other modalities but it is hard to do because the whole belief system is at odds between them.

I won't go to a Vet that has a problem with me saying NO, one size does not fit all and not all animals are the same. I am still undecided as to whether I will take Sparky to this other Vet, I know her and she is a nice lady but she is not the Vet mine is, I would just like some new idea, but not at the risk of harming Sparky so we will see. Most vets don't like the word NO :rolleyes

I agree, a combination of both worlds seems very wise. There are no practitioners close to my area and so far my Vet is doing a great job. However, I always like to be prepared and research my options. I do this with my own health as well.
