Terrific, Heather!  I've always been curious about Budapest...my former boss at work was from there.  She and her family emigrated here after the Revolution in 1956 (she and her brothers were children), and after the dust settled would go back and visit relatives there.  It's a beautiful city!    Those central European cities take you back in time....like Vienna and Prague as well.  Thanks for sharing!

Loved the "Cat Cafe"--were there really little kitties everywhere?    :lol

Yes Ann ........... you were given a hand out sheet when you went in if a new visitor as we were of course - telling your the rules. no waking up the pussies cats (and one did swipe at me when I tried to stroke her in her bed. a toritie - I should have known LOL)  if they were sleeping or picking up . if they jumped on your knee or table and asked for it then fine. no flash on the cameras eTC.

As aid earlir I think I was so excited with the cat cafe on the last day - as was looking forward to it for 4 days LOL.........  I would say - as Sheryl knows from another email that I was a little sad that the Maine Coon was knotty .......... couldnt get it over to them about the need for grooming him ... but i did put it in the Trip Adv. review for the place. They all looked in good condition and interacted a lot with people but when I stroked the big ginger lad I was really sad to feel some huge mats in his fur

I was amazed with the history - and we saw the reveoluton of 56 things everywhere. sadest for me was the shoes on the banks of the Danube river edge from Jewish victims from WW2 . rounded up and shot by the Germans so their bodies fell into the river. I just couldn't find it in myself to take a photo - felt it not right somehow. But the image will live with me for life...........

That's so sad about the WWII memorial with the shoes.   No, that would feel disrespectful, I guess, to take a picture.    :cry   But they have undergone a lot of hard times over there.

That's too bad about the kitties with mats.   The kitties are NOT going to like having their mats removed, either.  I'm sure that's why Lucie despised getting groomed--her fur tended to mat.  I tried to be gentle but it just wasn't good enough.   I would have enjoyed seeing the cats.

Was it here I was talking to someone about the Hemingway cats in Key West, Florida?    I found some of my pictures the other day and sent it to a Catster friend, but I think she wasn't the one I had originally mentioned it too.

Fabulous Heatber.Love all the architecture and art.
Looks way to cold for me :smile  i could imagine those thermal springs would be a luxury from the chill.

Love the cat cafe, and the big ginger boy,but see what you mean re a lack of grooming.Hopefully things change since you made it known.

I still havent visited our recently opened cat cafe here, but will eventually get there :smile

Oh you must go Sheryl - this is the first one I have been to...... When I found out it was opposite the Hotel we were going to I was more excited about that than the trip  :rolleyes  :lol  :lol

Anne you are right regarding their history - and like a great many other European countries (thank God England was never taken .... there was only a very short space of water between us and the Channel islands which were under occupation (50 minutes or so in a boat) who suffered dreadfully under the Nazis and Soviets too for that matter.  I was reading that 56,000 Jewish people were rounded up in just over 14 days and taken either to the banks of the river as above or to concentration camps ..... the Germans are not liked much in Hungary nor the Russians.

I imagine Hungary was like Poland and other smaller countries that were trapped between larger, more power-hungry nations...and the results were not good.   Especially the Jews, during the time of World War II.   :cry

we are off to visit Krakow (Poland) in February next year for a few days .... I personally would really like to visit Auschwitz but Paul refuses to go - mind you it is 6 hour tour and I should imagine it will be very harrowing so I can understand where he is coming from, it's just that it is a part sadly of history in Poland and i feel we should go out of respect, but as he says we have no relatives which were effected nor are we of Jewish decent...... will see if I can change his mind but I doubt it.
