I took my life in my hands todayI shaved Maggie down. She was NOT a willing victim. There was blood shed (mine) and it sounded like someone was being murdered but the deed is done for now. I am NOT waiting so long to shave her again!!!! I am SO happy that she was not show quality - it would have been heart breaking given her attitude toward grooming. I am also glad that I didn't place her as a kitten given her 'sparkling' personality. We love her anyway.

This story reminds me of the times I had to shave down my little silver boy, Puff. I got him back in the early 1990's. He had cotton candy hair and I had to keep him shaved down most of the time. He hated grooming and for a 5 pound kitty--he turned into a Mountain Lion!

Are you kidding? I can hardly hold anything for now. It took so long to shave her my hands are killing me, between holding her and the clippers. That is why Sol and Boo lucked out and didn't get their baths today.

I just got a small personal clipper with the idea of doing a bit of sanitary clipping, I am shaking in my boots to think of it, a full clip, un uh no way

I don't like shaving them down - I mean why have a Persian if you are going to keep them clipped? Maggie and her mother are special cases - they are lunatics when they see a comb coming at them. Safer to keep them shaved.

I know what you mean Lynda. My first persian was Spunky (silver). I always joked that he was so good he never even got knots, which was true. Then I got Puff (silver) and poor Puff knotted even if you looked at him it seemed. It broke my heart having to keep him shaved most of the time. I thought the same thing--why have a long haired cat if he is always shaved down. Puff had the most beautiful and huge turquoise eyes. It was just a shame his hair was so difficult.
Yes, I feel for you!!!

Lottie has that same type of coat - you look at her wrong and she mats up. Her coat just sort of floats when she moves. It is beautiful and I have always wanted a Persian that was like that - BUT little did I know how hard it was to care for the coat!
