Josh Update

I think this boy wins the record for having the longest infection on record.  It is 10 months now and it is believed that he has a kidney infection at the moment since his right kidney is sore and he is running a temp.  He just stopped eating on me Saturday afternoon after he vomited.

So back on antibiotics today for 7 days until we get the urine results.  The good news is that the daily fluid therapy is keeping his calcium levels and kidney values within a reasonable range.  Now if we could only get rid of this nasty infection.  Never a dull moment with this boy.

Thanks Sheryl - I have just googled it and read up on it .......... poor Josh but if it is helping then all well and good.  Sorry for sounding dim but I have not herd of this before - Toby is just on Fortekor tablets once a day.
Celeste

Heather this is the therapy given here in the US if the cat doesn't drink a sufficient amount of water.  Both Allie and Josh are on daily fluids.  Josh has been difficult about it for sometime but he did turn around a few weeks ago and doesn't oppose it any longer.  Allie just purrs for the entire time.

My sentiments exactually! Poor little guy has had so much to deal with. Let's hope this will be the the last of the antibiotics for him. :heart
Celeste

Well ladies it is the same bacteria.  He will need to go back on Monday so they can take another urine sample.  Not sure whether or not he needs another antibiotic or if the one he is on is doing the job.  By doing another culture after 7 days of meds, we will find out. If it is doing the job the 21 day therapy wasn't long enough.  Actually 2 rounds @ 21 days each were not long enough.

Thank you for keeping Josh in your thoughts.
LILIANE

Sweet little fluff man, please get better and do what your momzie tells you !

Any results from Joshs urine sample Celeste.
Celeste

Yes Sheryl...it is the same bacteria. :sad  I took Josh in yesterday again for another urine culture.  They want to see if this med is doing the job and it is just a matter of keeping him on it for an extended period of time.  He has been on it for 7 days now at a higher dose.

Thank you for asking.
Sheryl

Poor baby. It certainly is a resistant bacteria.
Lets hope the higher dose knocks it out once and for all.
JoaneWing

I hope the higher dose kicks that tough bacteria out of Josh once and for all!  He has been thru too much and so have you Celeste. BIG get well wishes!!! Maybe once gone a low prophylactic dose would be able to be used? Please keep us informed.
Bluegirl

keeping him in our prayers and sending him lots of good energy. He is one tough little guy.. give him a hug for me
