buttermilk biscuits

In honor of my daughter being home this week I made some biscuits for breakfast this morning. She loves Moms biscuits!

2 cups flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 tsp baking soda
2 tbsp butter or shortening
2/3 cup buttermilk (more or less)
Mix dry ingredients. Cut in butter/shortening. Add buttermilk to make dough soft and light, not sticky. Handle as little as possible to keep tender. Roll and cut out. Bake at 425 degrees on a greased cookie sheet until golden.Really tasty with homemade peach jam!

These sound really good! :razz

I am copying this one down too. Anything with buttermilk tastes especially good. Can't wait to try these. Thanks Lynda!!!

You are one talented lady---cooking, baking, and gardening. Of course most importantly---a great breeder who loves her fur babies :)

I bought some buttermilk to make a cake but think I will make these biscuits today instead. It is chilly here. Thinking of you Lynda :)

Since you are from the south you might enjoy buttermilk cornbread. It is so much better than plain cornbread. I also use buttermilk when I coat chicken to fry - on the rare occasions I fry anything.
I am just a southern belle at heart (more likely a southern ding-a-ling!). I love southern cooking.

Buttermilk cornbread---OH YES!  Funny you said I am from the South. Maryland is on the Mason-Dixon line so some people claim they are Northerners and some claim they are Southerners. I am a Southern girl at heart and could give Scarlet O'Hara a run for her money--- :lol

Hi! You are making me hungry!!!   :lol  :lol  :lol  That recipe sounds simple enough.  I have never made buttermilk biscuits.  I have made regular biscuits from scratch but not buttermilk.  I am going to have to try it.  Thanks for sharing.  :little angel  Linda

Putting buttermilk in a muffin recipe is also one of my favorites too!

Oh yummm! I learned to make those when I was in a cooking class. Buttermilk is great for making fried chicken, but I have never tried it yet!
It's not cold here but since it's windy and overcast it reminds me of a fall day---perfect for those biscuits! :chef
